Ten issues in. That's not nothing.

It hasn't been easy. BMX was never gonna be an easy sell in print, not now, not when everything's built for a screen and a scroll. Slack has always been a labour of love, a good one too, but love doesn't pay for increased pricing on paper stock or a print run.

So let's be honest. We don't make money doing this. That was never really the point of it either. But nothing survives long term on belief alone. At some point you have to make the numbers work, and right now, they don't.

Subscriptions through Silent still continue, twice a year, same as always. It covers the increased postage and roughly what it costs to actually make the thing, though even then it's still cheap for what you get. We get it if that's still not something you want to keep paying for. No hard feelings if you cancel. info@silentstr.com and we can do this.

If you're one of the people still waiting on a magazine, it's coming. We know the backlog's built up and we're properly sorry for that. As soon as issue 10 is physically out the door, clearing that backlog is the next job, and it's the priority.

Beyond that, Slack's going into hiatus for a while. Not dead, just paused, while we work out if there's a way to keep doing this that doesn't lose money every time. We genuinely don't know how long that takes yet.

We don't want to put the price up. And we don't want to chase advertisers hard when they're just as much figuring out what works in this new landscape as we are. But backing from people who do get it has gotten harder to find in this landscape, and we'd rather say that plainly than pretend everything's fine.

This is hard. We wanted you to actually know that, rather than just quietly fuck off for a bit and let you guess why.

Silent Magazine still continues. Twice a year. With extra love.
